FAQ

  • What is DHA?

DHA, Dihydroxyacetone is a simple saccharide (sugar) derived from plants such as sugar beets and sugar cane.  When the DHA reacts with the amino acids of dead skin cells, it causes a browning effect that is non-toxic, similar to the browning of an apple when exposed to air. This coloration is close to melanin, which is the natural pigment found deeper in the skin that is responsible for tanning from exposure to UV Rays. Although a spray tan won’t penetrate as deep as a natural tan, the benefits of sunless tanning methods far outweigh the dangers from UV rays.

    * Fun Fact: DHA actually changes the color of your skin! Many believe a spray tan is just a cosmetic bronzer applied to the skin that washes off, but After a full 24-36 hours the amino acids in your skin react with the DHA to produce a “tan” the safe way! Cosmetic bronzers (the stuff that can come off on your sheets and clothes) are just a temporary way to give you an instant bronzed look until your tan develops fully.

  • Are your solutions organic/vegan?

Yes, all of our products are organic, vegan, gluten free, paraben free, cruelty free, and non-comedogenic (meaning it won’t clog pores)!

  • Can I Spray Tan while pregnant?

We recommend consulting with your doctor before spray tanning while pregnant or breast-feeding.

  • How often can I spray?

We recommend spray tanning once a week, exfoliating old skin cells between each spray tan.

  • Will I turn orange?

No, with the proper skin prep/maintenance and the appropriate strength of DHA  for your skin tone, you are unlikely to turn orange. However, failure to prepare your skin properly prior to your sunless service can cause unwanted tones.

  • How long will my tan last?

Your sunless tan can last between 5-15 days depending on the strength of the solution and how well you follow the recommended after spray tan care. The length of your tan is reduced if you take long hot showers, over-exfoliate the skin, or rub instead of pat your skin dry after showering or bathing.

  • What should I use to make sure my spray tan lasts as long as possible?

We recommend avoiding long hot showers, rubbing instead of patting your skin dry, and over-exfoliating with store-bought skincare products not designed with spray tanning in mind. Most skincare products are made to exfoliate your skin, which can cause premature fading in some cases even ruin your tan. Be sure to check out our handpicked line of our favorite spray tan friendly products! Using the right moisturizer, body wash, and self-tanning foam can keep you looking bronzed all year round.

  • How old do I have to be spray tan?

You must be 18 years old or older, or have a signed parental consent form to receive sunless tanning services.

  • Is spray tanning safe for all ages?

All our products are safe for all ages and skin types, however sensitivities and reactions can happen occasionally. If you are under the age of eighteen and may have unknown skin sensitivities, we always recommend a patch test prior to your first spray tan.

  • Does my spray tan protect me from UV rays?

No, the sunless tan does not protect you from the effects of UV sunlight. We always recommend using sunscreen daily and/or when your skin will be exposed to UV rays.

  • Can I spray tan if I have eczema or a skin condition?

Spray tanning can be used to cover some skin conditions, we recommend getting a small patch done first to test for sensitivity or reaction. Your skin is as unique as you are, so we want to make sure our process works for YOU.

  • Can I swim with a spray tan?

We recommend waiting for your tan to fully develop (24-36 hours after your spray tan) before swimming. However, swimming often will strip your skin of essential oils and cause your tan to fade faster than normal.
